I know plenty of people that love Halloween, but hate being spooked. So with that in mind, here are the top 5 Halloween movies that won’t scare the pants off of you!
If you’ve been following me for a while then you know I love an old movie or two hundred. Young Frankenstein is an amazing movie for Halloween, there’s a laugh around every corner with the late, great Gene Wilder as Frederick Frunkensteen, the grandson of the famous Dr Frankenstein, who, so it happens, has inherited his grandfather’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of Igor, and a sexy Swede, he begins to recreate the “mad” experiments with hilarious results.
It’s nice to see a movie about witches that doesn’t involve pointy hats, broomsticks and cooking children in cauldrons! Sisters Sally and Gillian Owens are like chalk and cheese, one sensible, one wild, one thing they have in common is that they are both witches. The sisters are at the receiving end of some pretty nasty supernatural forces and have to work together to defeat them. Nothing like a bit of girl power!
Shaun of the Dead
It’s more Rom Com than Zom, but this zombie flick is a perfect fit for those who’d rather laugh than scream. Shaun is, well, a crappy boyfriend, that is until the zombie apocalypse sweeps through England and Shaun, with his rag tag group of friends, decides to save his girlfriend and his relationship. Simon Pegg is a genius, even if he has got red on him.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show
I’m a wild and an untamed thing! One of my favourite movies of all time and okay, maybe not quite Halloween-y but if you want an awesome film with fantastic songs and amazing costumes, then this is the way to go. Typical white bread Americans Brad and Janet get engaged, and they have the great idea to go visit Dr Scott, their mentor, without whom they never would have met. On the way they have some car trouble, so, they take refuge in a castle close by, however not all is as it seems, resulting in music, mayhem and Tim Curry’s fabulous legs!
I will be the first to admit that sometimes Tim Burton has strayed from the path, but this, this my friends is his finest work. Perfect to get you into the Halloween spirit! Edward Scissorhands is an unfinished creation of a scientist who died before managing to give Edward human hands. Since his creator’s death he has lived alone, until a kind lady called Peg discovers him and welcomes him into her home. At first, everyone welcomes him into the community, with is flair for topiary and hairdressing, but soon things begin to take a change for the worse.
